Abstract

The high price of coarse agregates rather than fine agregates, so one of the most frequent ways of implementing concrete work in saving the cost of concrete work is by reducing the percentage of coarse agregate volumes in the concrete and increasing the percentage of fine agregate volume to replace the reduced agregate volume. If the percentage of coarse agregate volume per 1 m3 of concrete mixture is not in accordance with the result of concrete mix design that has been planned it will give effect on the mechanical properties of concrete especially the compressive strength. The specimens of this research consisted of concrete mix consisting of 5 (five) types, based on concrete mixture planning using variation of cement water factor 0,4; 0.5; 0.6; 0.7 and 0.8. Meanwhile, the reduction of crude agregate volume per unit of concrete volume based on the modulus of fineness of sand used is 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%, for compressive strength test with age 28 days with cylindrical test object. The result of the test obtained for the agregate used to meet the specifications set by ASTM, the weight of the concrete is in the range 2267 - 2423 kg / m3. Concrete that undergoes fine aggregate reduction will decrease the compressive strength of concrete and the bigger the cement water factor, the more compressive strength will be decreased.
